Let’s Talk (2020)

Let’s Talk – Harvey Dog (2020)

Let's Talk - drawing by Harvey Dog 2020

This silence
is getting louder,
it’s disturbing,
you’re not talking,
what are you doing?
is everything ok?
you’re so quiet,
let’s talk

C
It’s the danger of silence
so much stronger than hate
It’s the danger of silence

This silence is
threatening,
intimidating,
your silence is
deafening,
how can you
how can you
how can you
just sit there
and not speak?
are you ok?
is there something wrong?
you’re not thinking?
I don’t like this
I don’t like this
I really don’t like this
not one bit,
let’s talk,
please

C
It’s the danger of silence
so much stronger than hate
It’s the danger of silence
so much stronger than hate

Notes

  • The last piece was about having the words you speak, make people uncomfortable. This one is about how being silent can cause people to be nervous.
  • During my 20’s & 30’s, I fell into the camp of having my words offend people, while my 40’s & 50’s has seen a withdrawal and, I’m sure, fall into the camp of having my silence being misinterpreted and causing dissension. It’s a social anxiety and depression thing on my part…it’s not you!
  • The germ of this started from a July 2017 short poem…eventually morphing into…this.
  • Grammarly: Confident (****) Worried (***) Disapproving (***)! Confident…and worried?

Original: July 2017
